May Day 2008: A Day of Remembrance
The answer is that the tragedy has never been properly memorialized, its victims rarely acknowledged. Too many too easily brush aside the suffering that occurred. Today, we do our small part to remember some of the victims. Keep them in your thoughts--the millions of victims of communism worldwide, the Cossacks extradited to the USSR by nations of the 'free world', the victims of the Khmer Rouge, and the North Korean laborers in modern day Russia and Czech Republic.

I have to feel that if Obama becomes president, he would heal this pain.

That's a joke, right?

Not only were the victims never acknowledged, but the Western countries did everything they could to sweep the past under the carpet. This way, countries like Russia and China can gloss over the fact that they murdered tens of millions under their communist regimes, and now enjoy prime trade with the free world. None of the old aparatchiks has seen an international trial, none of the victims or their families have received fair compensation, and in fact you still see a lot of the old guard in todays' governments over there.

... and it's still respectable today in the modern West to be a Communist, in a way that it is not to be a Nazi.
