Cliff
The Federal Reserve and Wall Street are like a man sliding down a cliff. He grasps each clump of grass on the way down. As the clump pulls loose, he grabs one lower down the slope. None of these clumps will save him.
There is no disaster so great that government intervention can't make it worse. I expect Congress to prove that true within the next few months, as the economy tanks.

I would say more like an avalanche. You can have smaller ones, or you can keep piling on until you get something that blows everyone away and makes them afraid to get back on the mountain.

Deficit spending and insane monetary policy come home to roost. I've never been a fan of gold standard because it can cause a liquidity shortage, but it's not worse than stagflation ....
